INSIGHT – a web application that gives real time parental access online
With INSIGHT, parents have secure online access via two-factor authentication to view their children's data 24 hours a day via PC, laptop, pocket PC and some mobile devices with internet connection and always under the control of the school - ensuring schools meet the DCSF guidelines for parental access by 2010.
INSIGHT has a live link to your school's SIMS.net database, giving real time access to current data. Schools have the flexibility to manage the substance and style of their own reporting to parents. Once the school has agreed the data to be shared with parents, the process of adding SIMS data to the report is automatic.
Parents will be able to view their child's progress in school, see if they are in school today and view their attendance for the week or attendance over longer periods of time.
Has any lateness occurred in arriving at school or in any lesson? How are they behaving in school? Have they earned any merits this week; what is their merit score? Has their behaviour been such that they have been placed "on report" or have they received any detentions? What is their child achieving in school? Parents can view: assessments completed, grades assigned, marks and comments entered, teacher targets that have been set and what progress has been made to date. In addition, examination results, key stage data plus any SEN data and other relevant information on their child can also be seen.
Reports available to parents include:
- Today’s attendance
- Attendance by day of the week, session and lesson
- History of pupil lateness
- Student’s individual timetable
- Behaviour in school
- Any merits gained, demerits given
- Any periods of student's placed "on report" or detentions given
- Assessments scores and progress made with relevant levels and grades.
- Examination results / Key stage results
- Notices for parents
- SEN
- Pupil reports from SIMS profiles or their Individual Assessment Manager report.
- History of pupil Homework.
Other available options include: setting up forums for staff and parents, using parent’s notices or using linked adults and agencies to sharing teacher and parent details over a secure connection.
Parents comprise a diverse group with differing aspirations and needs but they all need timely, accurate and relevant information. INSIGHT supports a wide range of engagement options to suit most parents' lifestyles, including some mobile devices.
