PARS can be used to run an analysis of your grades, based on a pre-configured key indicator template. Once a template has been configured, you can run the analysis by selecting a group of students using the buttons on the left hand side of your homepage.

Homepagegroups.jpg

You will see a link for a registration group if you are a registration tutor, a year group if you are a head of year and one or more subject buttons if you are a head of subject or class teacher. All members of staff will also see the Individuals button, which allows you to select any cohort of pupils in the school, and run an analysis against them.

If you click on one of the subject buttons, then you will see a list of the classes you teach. If you are a head of subject, then you will see all of the classes in that subject, as well as a link to perform an analysis on All Classes within your subject.

Standard Analysis

Attendance and Behaviour

To being running an analysis, click on one of the buttons to choose a group of pupils. This will take you to a new page:

Grdanal01.jpg

This will show you a breakdown of the pupils' attendance, behaviour and detentions. You next need to choose a key indicator, which tells PARS which grades you are going to be using in the analysis. To do this, click the "Currently selected indicator" drop down from the top of the page, and choose one of your indicator templates.

PARS will collate the grading data, and you should then see several more tabs appear at the top of the window. These are explained below:

Key Indicators

This tab shows the raw data that the grading analysis will use. There are five radio buttons at the top right of the panel that give you different views:

Personal

The personal tab shows the vulnerability groupings (e.g. SEN, Pupil Premium, etc.) of the pupils in the group you selected. You can filter the list of pupils using these groupings. Any filters that you apply here will also be applied to the other tabs for analysis.

Subjects

Here you can see the grades that the pupils have for each subject. The grade on the left of each cell is the current grade and the grade on the right is the target. The grades are colour coded based on whether the pupil is below, on or above target.

Grades

The grades page shows a distribution of the grades given to the pupils in the cohort. Each pupil is shown and you can click on the numbers to see which subjects their grades lie in. This page will also show an EBACC analysis if the grades on the Key Indicator contain A*, A, B, etc.

A summary is shown beneath the grades table. The cohort is broken down into different groupings and then split between those that are above, on and below target.

At the bottom of the grades tab are two pie charts, which show the proportion of the cohort who are achieving either 5A*-A grades, 5A*-C grades, or 5A*-G grades, and whether or not that includes English and Maths.

A8

The A8 tab shows the points pupils have earned for the Attainment 8 measure. This is a new data-centric grading measurement system which will be introduced in the 2015/2016 academic year.

A8 Extended

The A8 extended tab shows additional information about the Attainment 8 analysis; you can see the subjects that make up each pupil's best 8 grades, as well as the score contributed to their total by these subjects.

Residual

The residual tab will show a grade distribution diagram for all subjects. You will be able to see the breakdown of the different grades, as well as how many steps above or below target the pupils are within in each subject.

Clicking on any of the coloured sections will open a window showing which pupils are within the section that you clicked on. You will then be able to see their SEN status, Pupil Premium indicator, whether they are FSM or Ever 6, if they are gifted and talent, and if English is an additional language.

Std popup1.jpg

Clicking on any of the pupils in the previous window will open another window, which shows how many grades above or below target the pupil is within each of their subjects.

Subject names

Each subject will have its own tab. On the subject tabs, you will be able to see the same information bars as the residual tab, as well as a pivot table and a cumulative distribution data table.

The pivot table shows target grades down the side (Y axis) and current grades along the top (X axis). This allows you to examine all of the pupils who have a specific target or current grade e.g. for all of the pupils with a target of C, how many have got A*, how many have A, B, etc. The grades will be colour coded to show whether or not they are above target and again you can click to open a window showing who the pupils are.

Analy4.jpg

At the bottom of the page is the cumulative distribution table. You will see multiple columns for various group types. On the left side of the table, there are numbers which show how many grades above or below target the pupils are.

On the left side of each column, the number shows you the percentage of pupils who are X number of grades above target or better. On the right side of each column, you see the percentage of pupils X grades above target or worse.

Cumulativedist.jpg

In this example, we are looking at the pupils who are not eligible for Free School Meals. Of those pupils, 77.7% are on target (0 grades above target) or better. 11.1% are 1 grade above target or better, and 5.5% are 2 levels above target or better.

88.8% of pupils are on target (0 grades above target) or worse. 22.2% are 1 level below target or worse and 11.1% of pupils are 2 grades below target or worse.

There is also a section at the bottom of each subject page showing the grading data broken down by vulnerability groupings. You can see a pie chart for each grouping showing how many pupils are in the group and how many are not. Next to each pie chart there are bars showing how well the pupils are performing. Again you can click on the visuals to see the lists of pupils.

Head of subject analysis

Anal all class.jpg

Heads of Subject will see a link for "All classes" when they click on the subject for which they are the head.
NB The list of Heads of Subject is configured via PARS main menu > System management > Subject leaders

A list of classes within that subject will then be displayed. A key indicator needs to be selected from the drop down at the top of the page, then an analysis will be shown for each class in the subject. The number next to each class shows how many grades, on average, the pupils in that class are above or below their target.

There is a magnifying glass button next to each class which shows the transition matrix for that class. As with the standard analysis, each cell on the matrix can be clicked to show the name of the pupils in that cell.
