You have now purchased PARS and want to configure a few areas to get started!

As System Manager you firstly need to give yourself the permission to use all features:

Configure User Permissions

Go to
PARS main menu (satchel top left corner) > System Management > Configure user permissions

The recommended way to give user permissions to staff is by creating a template for various roles and then assigning this template to members of staff. This way if you want to edit users' permissions, you update the template only and not all users. Makes it quick and simple!

Create a Template

To create a template for yourself, click on 'Add template'

GS02.jpg

Name the template - example 'Admin' and click Accept. You will now see the template name 'Admin' in the top box

GS03.jpg

Next download and save this file, by right-clicking and selecting "Save target as..."

Suggested Admin Permissions

Highlight 'Admin' and click 'Modify permissions' from the top toolbar. This will now take you to the permission list. Click the "Import" button and import the suggested permissions template you downloaded above.

Applying a Template

Once you have imported your template click 'Save Changes' on the top toolbar

You now need to apply the template to your name (or multiple staff in Admin)

Highlight your name on the list shown - using the Shift or CTRL button on your keyboard, highlight multiple staff if required.

Click on 'Modify Permissions' from the top toolbar

Gs04.jpg

then click Apply Template

Click Accept in this window and 'save changes' from the toolbar in the following screen

You should now see your template assigned to your name

CLOSE PARS to refresh the whole system and when you log back in you will see you have all permissions availble to you.

Recommended permissions for Admin, Office, SLT and Teachers

As a new user, please go to this page for suggested permissions as advised by our training officer to get you started. For a more informative list please go to List of permissions.

You may also want to download our suggested permissions templates:

(right click and choose "Save target as...")

Configure Preferences

Configure Preferences are global to the School - the following options are recommended by default. You may find some options change when using more features in PARS in the future

Registration Times

Please enter the correct times for your Statutory AM and PM registers. If your statutory data comes directly from a lesson due to no tutor period (usually in the afternoon) enter the first 10 minutes of the afternooon lesson here.

One you have finished selecting all your preferences - click 'Accept' from top tool bar

Timetables and mapping periods

If you have morning and afternoon tutor periods, ignore this section. If you don't then your statutory AM and/or PM data is taken from the lesson registration. Usually this is afternoon period PM Session during Lesson 5.

To link this data together so a teacher only takes one register (which writes back to PM session) you need to 'Map' the periods.

See our link http://www.tascsoftware.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions#How_to_record_AM_and_PM_marks_during_a_lesson and follow to setup

To check a teachers timetable, click on your name to the top right of PARS homepage --- it will then allow you to click another member off staff. choose a form tutor.

Enable pupils to 'populate all years' as a group

PARS already knows from SIMS which pupils are in which classes, forms, years... however to update pupil data quickly and create reports all under a 'All years' criteria, we need to click a couple of buttons

Main Menu (satchel) > Group Management > Group Management on the very top of the toolbar you should be able to see the option 'populate all years'. Click this option and within 3 seconds it will be updated.

Automation

Automation must run daily - it allows you to use emails, scheduled reports, scheduled jobs, clears old messages, updates messages -- basically house keeping.

See Automation guide to configure this

Your PARS system is now configured as a starter for basic usage :)
