Detentions are part of the behaviour policy most schools. PARS can be used to place pupils in detention and record whether or not they attend. If you are using the fire module then PARS will record which pupils are onsite in detention even after the end of normal school hours for safeguarding.

The various features that relate to detentions and/or removals are described in brief below, with a link to a wiki page that goes into more detail about each feature. Each link that you can click is coloured and emboldened like this (you can't click on this one).

Usage

Giving detentions/removals to pupils

A pupil can be placed on detention when you are adding a behaviour incident. Click on the link for more information about adding behaviour and issuing detentions.

You can also place a pupil on detention/removal via the main menu. Go to mark pupils for detentions or mark pupils for removals for instructions on doing this.

Editing and deleting detentions/removals

You can edit and delete detentions via the edit scheduled detentions/removals feature in PARS, which can also be used to send emails, SMS messages or letters home to parents.

The schedule detentions/removals page allows you to alter the date on which the pupil is going to serve their detention or removal. Note that PARS will not allow a pupil to be in two detentions at once.

Taking registers

When pupils have been placed in detention or removal, PARS will create a register for them. You can take the register to record which pupils are absent and which are not, and reissue detentions if necessary. Follow the link for instructions.

Automatic detentions

When they have been configured, you can use rule based detentions to place pupils into detention in bulk. Pupils will be placed into detention if they have hit certain criteria, e.g. 3x late in a week or 10+ negative incidents in a month.

Reporting on detentions/removals

You can find information about detentions and removals, analyse their effectiveness and identify patters using detention reports or removal reports. Each of the links takes you to a page showing screenshots of all reports available.

Configuration

Creating detentions/removals

Before you can use the Detention or Removal systems in PARS, you will need to create some slots e.g. "SLT" detention or "Isolation". This is done using the configure time types page in PARS.

Custom attendance codes

When pupils are placed into detention or removal, PARS will create a register for them. PARS comes with four attendance marks that can be used in detention or removal registers, but you can create extras if required. To do this, go to the configure statuses page.

Automatic detentions

Rule based detentions can be used to automatically place pupils in detention for hitting certain criteria e.g. 3x late in a week. Follow the link for instructions on creating rule based detentions.

Detention/removal letters

If you are going to send letters home to parents regarding detentions or removals, then you will need to import the letter designs into PARS. The letter designs must be written in html markup, so our programmers will produce these for you free of charge. You will first need to send us a mock-up showing how you would like the finished letter to look. We will then send a file back to you which you can import into PARS via the slip designer.
