Biometrics can be used in various ways using PARS based on your Schools needs.

To discuss setting up and using a Biometrics system in school or to enquire about modifying an existing system, please contact the PARS Helpdesk

A guide to configuring PARS for biometrics can be found here

Please check first with the TASC Support Team to ensure this is the correct setup for your Biometric/swipe/barcode Manufacturers database as configurations may differ

Options can include and one or more of the following options:

  • Sign-in to School
  • Sign-in to a room
  • Sign-in to School counts am and/or statutory mark as present or late
  • Sign-in to room counts as mark in class register

Typically each system comes with its own database that stores information about each pupil's fingerprint along with a unique id number for each pupil. If the reader system can return this unique number every time a pupil uses the reader, PARS is able to compare the number to another unique pupil id number found in the SIMS database and so can identify the pupil. The bulk of the configuration of the Biometrics system is therefore the process of matching up the unique pupil id numbers in both databases. In practical terms this means that each pupil needs to have their biometrics information scanned once in a PARS register while a user selects the pupil's name from a list.
