Insight can be used by parents to inform you of a change in personal details, via the personal details page. Parents' ability to use this feature is set using the role options.

The personal attribute changes page is used to manage request that parents have sent to you. If an attribute change has been requested, it will need to be authorised by a member of staff before any action is taken. All pending requests will be shown, as well any previous requests which will have either been approved or denied.

To deal with a pending request, first click on it so that it is highlighted in blue. Next, click the potrait button from the top left of the page. This will open a window where you can view the details of the requested change, and decide whether to approve or deny it. You may wish to phone the contact to confirm that the request is genuine.

If you want approved attribute changes to write back to SIMS automatically, then you can activate the relevant preferences under the SIMS write back section (note that an attribute change will always need to be approved before writing back to SIMS).

Under the email section of preferences, you can also find a field allowing you to specify an email address(es) for messages to be sent to whenever an attribute change is requested. If you do not enter an email address(es) in that preference, then a member(s) of staff will need to periodically check the personal attribute changes page to find out if any new requests have been made.
