Insight can be used by parents to inform you of changes to their telephone number(s), via the [[personal details]] page. Parents will have to provide their new number, and whether the reason for change is having a new telephone number, or correcting an error such as a typo. Parents' ability to use this feature is set using the [[role options]]. 

The telephone no. changes page is used to manage request that parents have sent to you. If a change of telephone number has been requested, it will need to be authorised by a member of staff before any action is taken. All pending requests will be shown, as well any previous requests which will have either been approved or denied.

To deal with a pending request, first click on it so that it is highlighted in blue. Next, click the telephone button from the top left of the page. This will open a window where you can view the details of the requested change, and decide whether to approve or deny it. You may wish to contact the parent to confirm that the request is genuine.

If you want approved telephone number changes to write back to SIMS automatically, then you can activate the relevant [[preferences#SIMS Write-back|preferences]] under the SIMS write back section (note that a telephone number change will '''always''' need to be approved before writing back to SIMS). 

Under the email section of [[preferences#Email|preferences]], you can also find a field allowing you to specify an email address(es) for messages to be sent to whenever a telephone number change is requested. If you do not enter an email address(es) in that preference, then a member(s) of staff will need to periodically check the telephone no. changes page to find out if any new requests have been made.
