When running a SIMS update, it may be necessary to kick any active PARS users out of the SIMS database.
After selecting System Management -> Kill MS SQL processes from the PARS main menu the following options are available:
Kill this process
This gives a table with four columns giving a list of the current PARS connections:
- SPID
- "SPID" is the SQL Server process ID number and is assigned by SQL Server to each new connection. It starts with one and is globally unique.
- Host name
- The name of the computer from which the connection to the database is being made
- Status
- The current status of the connection e.g. "Runnable" "Sleeping"
- Cmd
- This indicates the current / latest command being run by the thread.
PARS kickout
The PARS kickout button will remove all PARS connections from the database and prevent users from logging back in until an unlock password has been entered. After clicking the "PARS kick out" button, enter the unlock password (this may be obtained from the PARS Helpdesk) and then enter a message for your currently selected users (e.g. "PARS is about to shutdown for maintenance, it will be available again in one hour"). After a 90 second countdown has completed, all users will be kicked out.
To unlock PARS after a kickout, double click on the shortcut to load PARS on any machine, the message "Forced close found" and "PARS is currently locked. Do you wish to enter the unlock password?" will be displayed. Enter the unlock password which is the same password used to initially run the kickout.
