System management is a section of PARS that has various options to control the way PARS works. The features in this section are described in brief below, with a link to a wiki page that goes into more detail about each feature. Each link that you can click is coloured and emboldened like this (you can't click on this one).

Usage

You may need to update or change the level of access that users have within PARS. This is done via permissions.

The fire module is used to keep a record of live attendance data in the case of a fire. If you are planning to use the fire module for your fire procedures, you should read the fire module page for instructions and important considerations.

In rare circumstances, you may wish to delete data en masse. This can be done using the bulk delete feature within PARS.

Sometimes our technical staff may provide you with an SQL statement to run. This can be run via the repair console, providing that you know the password for the SQL statement that you want to run (our tech team will provide you with this where necessary).

The automation module performs various important housekeeping jobs for PARS. You can view and manage the jobs that the automation module performs by going to the automation menu item. See job list for a list of the jobs that the automation module performs.

There are a number of management reports available in PARS, which will show you technical information such as pupils' membership to groups, system performance monitoring and potential technical issues.

If you encounter any errors in PARS, these will be logged in the helpdesk tickets section.

The licence details page allows you to view and update your licence details. Typically PARS will automatically update your licence by communicating with our website. However is PARS can't access our website (usually because your proxy server details are incorrect, see above) then you can use this page to manually enter a new licence key.

Configuration

Preferences are settings that apply to all users of PARS. Follow the link for details about the various preferences in PARS.

Registration preferences are very similar to preferences (above) except that they only apply to registers.

Unlike preferences, permissions are applied to specific users. This means some users will have different permissions to others. The permissions page explains what the various permissions do, and has suggested templates of permissions that you can use.

The proxy server is needed for PARS Connect to communicate with the internet. See configure proxy server for more information about this.

The subject leaders page allows you to define which staff are Heads of Subject or Heads of Department. It is important to set this up, as the settings here are used for behaviour referrals and grading analyses.

The automation module performs various important housekeeping jobs for PARS. Follow the link for more information about the automation module.

You can import pupils' emails addresses into your database if needed. To do this you will need to have a .csv file with pupils' email addresses in the correct format. See bulk import emails for more information.

Pupil scan is a configuration option used for biometric systems. If you are using biometrics or swipecards, follow the link for information about the setup required.
